Tour Overview

Willing to live a unique experience in the very heart of Siberia? Test your strength! Hike on Lake Baikal ice, feel Siberian winter and enjoy the heat of Russian banya after such unforgettable experience! You will hike two days in total autonomy and far away from civilization with weather conditions being sometimes unfavorable. From Olkhon Island to Barguzinsky Bay, you will cross lake Baikal in its widest part, discovering ephemeral landscapes shaped by both wind and cold. You will have all necessary equipment for a safe and comfortable trip. During the crossing you will use sleds to carry the luggage. You will also be provided with ice-cleats in order to walk safe on the ice. Moreover you will overnight in a pre-prepared tent camp with hot meals in the center of Lake Baikal. It means you won’t need to carry tents, sleeping bags and food that make your trip easier and give an opportunity to participate in the tour not only well physically prepared people, but also teenagers and even elderly people. In addition, meals in the camp will be organized with a help of a cooker.

Tour Programme

Day 1 Arrival in Irkutsk. Meeting with the guide at 10:30 in the airport. Transfer from the airport to the hotel. Check-in. Discussion of the program and equipment's check up. Rest. Free lunch and dinner. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 2 Breakfast. At 09:00 meeting with your driver and guide in the hotel and departure to MRS. On the way you will make several stops to have lunch and take photos. Arrival in MRS. Check-in in the tourist base. Free time to have a walk on the open ice. Dinner and night in the tourist base.

Day 3 After breakfast departure to Olkhon island. Crossing of the straight Olkhonskiye Vorota by ice. Arrival in Khuzhir, central village. Check-in in the tourist camp held by a resident of the village. Lunch. Discovery of Burkhan rock, residence of the Baikal sprits, site of shamanic cult and one of the nine Buddhist sanctuaries of Asia. Visit of the village. Preparation of the luggage. Dinner and night in the tourist camp.

Day 4 Breakfast. Early in the morning transfer by off-road vehicle (UAZ) to the starting point of our crossing - cape Khoboy situated in the north of the island. From there you will discover a magnificent panorama of the frozen lake. Stops along the way to explore the caves, grottos and islands. Start of crossing. Heading towards the eastern shore, we will pass through the widest and the deepest part of Lake Baikal. During these two days every participant will pull his personal clothes in special sleds. We will spend one night in heated tent, placed in the middle of the lake and have hot meals every night (food cooked on gas burner). Outdoor lunch. Dinner in the tent. Overnight in the tent.

Day 5 Breakfast. Our ice-trekking goes on! Outdoor lunch. At the end of the day you will be transferred by 4x4 to the village of Ust-Barguzin. After several days of physical activity it its time to take traditional Russian banya! Dinner and night in a comfortable guest house, situated on the shore of the lake.

Day 6 Breakfast. Departure to Ulan-Ude. In the beginning our way goes along the shore of the lake and then passes through taiga forests. Lunch in a café serving traditional Buryat cuisine. Arrival in Ulan-Ude. We recommend you to leave your luggage in a baggage room and benefit from the guided visit of the city. You are welcome to visit Ivolginsky datsan, serving the most important place of worship in Buryatia and the centre of Buddhism in Russia (extra charge). Free dinner. At 22:30 departure to Irkutsk by train (2nd class). Night on board of the train.

Day 7 Arrival in Irkutsk at 07:15. Transfer to the airport. End of the program.
